The initial priming of the pump is also vital; the pump casing must be filled with clean hydraulic fluid before first start-up to prevent running dry, which would cause instantaneous damage. The reservoir and all hydraulic lines should be meticulously cleaned before assembly to eliminate contaminants left over from manufacturing or installation. During the initial run, the system should be cycled at low pressure to bleed trapped air from the pump and lines. Furthermore, the correct break-in procedure, which may involve operating the system at gradually increasing loads and changing the fluid and filters after the first 50-100 hours of operation, is essential to remove any initial wear particles and seat the internal components properly.
